Surviving Winter – Skin-Saving Tips To Get You Through The Big Chill
Winter can be murder on your skin! It can leave your complexion red, ruddy, dry and very drab. Here’s a few tips to help your skin cope with whatever Jack Frost sends your way,
- It may be very tempting, but avoid splashing hot water on your face on cold winter days. The sudden heat can irritate and burst blood vessels close to the surface of the skin leaving you with fine spider veins and a red, ruddy appearance.
- Stay away from electric bar or air heaters. The hot dry heat they emit can dehydrate the skin, sucking out moisture and leaving you with dry, red, ruddy, irritable skin. Use an oil heater instead or simply throw on another jumper.
- Remember to slip slop and slap! It may feel harmless on a cold frosty day, but the sun looses none of its sting during the months of winter. Sun damage and even sunburn are still high risk factors for skin left exposed to the winter sun.
- Eat your fruit and veg. On a cold winter’s day, the temptation to tuck into rich, greasy food is high. Think of the anti-oxidant needs of your skin (and your waistline!) and opt for a hearty vegetable soup or stir-fry instead.
