Winter skin tips to keep your summer glow

When she arrives, winter always brings with her a range of skin concerns which may mean you need to change up your routine to hold onto that summer glow you've been enjoying. Here are our top tips for keeping your skin nourished and radiant this winter.

Hydrate

As cooler temperatures set in, the natural oils found within our skin find it harder to get going (we know how they feel), which can leave your skin looking and feeling dry and flaky. Hydration is key in countering this.

For starters, if you're not already using one, switch to a cream cleanser. Our award-winning Balancing Cleanser is a great choice as it soothes and repairs skin, won't strip your natural oils and moisture, and actually helps to stop moisture evaporating from the skin's surface.

You might also need to look at stepping up your moisturiser game. Try to ensure you are applying a nourishing moisturiser both in the morning and the evening to help prevent moisture loss. Our Essential Hydration Cream is packed full of ingredients which bring deep relief to dry and dehydrated skin. For an extra hydration boost, try mixing in a couple of drops of our Essential Hydration Concentrate before applying.

If you feel like you need a moisture top-up during the day, our Moisture Boosting Facial Mist is a great little secret weapon to pop in your handbag. A quick spritz and you'll instantly feel refreshed and revitalised.

Of course, moisture on your skin can only do so much; don't forget to make sure you're hydrating your body from the inside as well! It's such an integral part of our beauty mantra that we've even created our own water bottles.

Don't forget the SPF
In the colder months when the sun doesn't seem to have any heat to it, it can be easy to overlook SPF protection. Take a leaf out of Kim Kardashian's book, and make sure you're applying SPF every day to prevent wrinkles and pigmentation, and save collagen. SPF doesn't have to mean heavy, greasy sunscreen though; our Protection Plus Daily SPF50+ provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, won't clog your pores, and has a matte finish which provides a great base for your makeup.

Exfoliate
If your skin tolerates it, a good exfoliator can help to remove the build-up of dead skin cells which often occurs thanks to dryness in the winter months. Our Micro Cleanse Super Scrub is a dual action exfoliator which achieves results akin to a professional microdermabrasion from the warmth and comfort of your own home. Be sure to apply SPF before you step out after using this one as it contains AHA mainstay glycolic acid to help it really stimulate your cells and keep your skin looking young and fresh.

Don't turn the heat up too much
In winter, it's so tempting to take a nice long, hot shower. But this could actually be exacerbating your skin concerns. Not only will it strip the natural oils from your skin, but hot water evaporates fast, which can leave you with small cracks in your skin and bring on the dreaded winter itch. If you really can't do without the hot shower, keep your bathroom door closed so the moisture remains in the air while you dry, and be sure to apply a moisturiser straight away.

Protect your lips
Winter and chapped lips seem to go hand in hand. Thanks to the drying nature of cooler air, we subconsciously try to counter this by licking our lips, but unfortunately this just makes it worse and can lead to painful, deep cracks. As the old adage goes, prevention is better than cure! Our Absolute Lip Perfector is a powerful night-time treatment which locks in moisture that will last all day, and keep your pout looking perfect through the cooler months.

Of course, everyone's skin is different, and the best products for your unique needs many vary from those mentioned here.
